Dorothy Ilgen
Following an 8-year tenure as Executive Director of the Philharmonic, Dorothy is retiring from day-to-day management of the orchestra.
Her commitment to the orchestra and steady leadership brought us through the difficult COVID years, emerging as a strong organization prepared for another 80 years of service to the central Indiana community.
The entire Philharmonic family salutes Dorothy for her service and wishes her an enjoyable and rewarding retirement.

Feb 4, 2026. The Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis, the community’s longest established (86 years young!) community orchestra is seeking an Executive Director. This position is the key management position for the Orchestra and its choral arm, the Symphonic Praise Choir. The Executive Director has operational responsibility for the administration of programs and implementation of the strategic plan of the organization. The Director is responsible for leadership of development, operations, budget adherence, marketing and community outreach. This position works with Board of Directors, Artistic Management personnel and volunteers in completion of the Orchestra’s mission.
